LOCKED
operationally smart
LDD-14 · Workshop + Equipment Room
One-line intent
Cleaner, quieter, more efficient shop — equipment isolated, workflow direct, lift access integrated.
Locked decisions
- Equipment room: ~10' × 13' (per LDD-13). Houses dust collection + compressor for noise isolation.
- Dust: direct wall pass-through (short duct, no chase)
- Air: overhead distribution
- Workshop main: ~23' × 16' central work zone with 7' transport spine to lift
Open items / engineer review
- Dust collection sizing (3HP cyclone? 5HP?)
- Compressor sizing + dryer + filter
- Pneumatic distribution material + drops at each tool location
- Outlet count + amperage along workshop walls (5+ 20A per wall not excessive)
- Workshop task lighting spec (80+ CRI, 50–80 fc on bench)
- Workshop heating control (separate from main; intermittent use)
Cost drivers
Dust collection $4–10K · Compressor $3–6K · Pneumatic distribution $2–5K · Acoustic isolation of equipment room $3–6K · Lighting + outlets $6–12K · Wall finishes (durable plywood/steel) $4–8K. Total: $25–50K.
Air-gap concerns
- Dust pass-through is fire risk if not detailed — fire-rated detail or external vent.
- Compressor heat in equipment room — 3–5K BTU/hr; needs exhaust or cooling head.
- Pneumatic drops design now = 5x cheaper than retrofit.
- Dust collector noise still bleeds. Even double-stud, 5HP cyclone is loud — also isolate compressor pump.
- Polished concrete + long work sessions hard on body — anti-fatigue mats at bench.
